Celebrity Cruises is an old company, although you woundn't say so. The company was created in 1989 by the Greek Chandris-group, a well-known an old Greek shipping company, who sailed with ships as Amerikanis, Australis and Italis in recent history. When Celebrity Cruises started, it was the only passenger-carring company of Chandris. The big X on the funnels is the Greek letter 'C' and stands for Chandris, not Celebrity.

In 1997 Celebrity Cruises was taken over by the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, but it kept it's own identity. With this move, it was more easy for RCCL to compete with the biggest player on the market, the Carnival Corporation. The ships of the line are featured on the next pages.
